Age: 17 | Hometown: Santa Clarita, California

"Today, the air in California is some of the worst in the nation and the EPA continues to intentionally allow life-threatening pollution. At just 17, I have already experienced extreme wildfires, smoke-filled days, and poor air quality. I am asking the court to do its job and protect my constitutional rights because the right to life means nothing if I do not have the right to live a safe and healthy life."

Dani has witnessed inequity and social issues exacerbated by the climate crisis in her community. Because of this, she’s become very active in her community – frequently volunteering in climate action and working with women and children in need. Dani is passionate about helping others and always hoped to one day become a nurse practitioner, however, her concerns about the climate crisis have made her shift her plans to focus on mitigating the climate crisis through nonprofit work.

Over the years, Dani has experienced extreme climate change-related weather events that have prevented her from enjoying life as any young person should. Heavy rains have caused mudslides on the canyon that Dani lives on, severely damaging the foundation and ceiling of her home. Extreme heat and wildfires are also increasing in frequency, resulting in smoke and poor air quality, which worsens her allergy and has impacted her ability to attend school. Climate-related events also cut the power supply several times a year in her home and in times of extreme drought, has faced water contamination and shortages at her school.
