"I decided to join this lawsuit as a youth plaintiff because we must do everything we can to combat the climate crisis. I feel the EPA hasn't done enough to mitigate the greenhouse gases that are emitted into the atmosphere, so I believe holding them accountable is what we all need right now to start moving in the right direction. "

Genesis is a climate and animal rights activist, who adopted a vegan lifestyle at the age of six to reduce her impact on the environment and save the life of farm animals. She's also an Afro-Latina with Indigenous roots, and at 10 years old, was the youngest person to give a TEDx talk about her activism, which was inspired by Cesar Chavez, her great uncle and civil rights leader.

Genesis also founded “Genesis for Animals,” a nonprofit organization that raises money for sanctuaries and rescues that provide animals with permanent homes. She also founded “Youth Climate Save” a youth-led climate movement that works with schools, governments, and hospitals in international communities to help create campaigns, events, and legislation that can help the environment and animals.

Genesis feels a deep connection to the Earth, but the accelerating climate crisis is fueling anxiety about the future. Rising temperatures in California have caused Genesis to experience heat exhaustion and severe headaches. Without air conditioning in her home, she’s forced to keep windows open during the summer, which exposes her to more pollen, worsening her allergies. In the last two years, Genesis has experienced bad smoke seasons. There are moments where she needs to wear a mask and moments where the air quality is so bad that she can’t go outside.
