JANAK SEKARAN

Government Affairs Intern

Janak was born in New York City, grew up in Weston, Connecticut, and is completing his education at Columbia University, where he’s studying Philosophy, Math, and Sustainable Development.

Before joining the team at Our Children’s Trust, Janak worked as an intern for the Department of Interior and as a paralegal for Hogan Lovells.

For years, Janak has been passionate about protecting the natural world and fighting climate change. He finds studying environmental law rewarding because it offers both intellectual stimulation and tangible benefits for society. Environmental law serves as a practical tool to protect and conserve the environment, delivering immediate benefits to communities. He looks forward to deepening his understanding of environmental law and contributing to Our Children’s Trust's mission of preserving the environment for present and future generations.

In his free time, Janak enjoys writing environmental-themed articles for the Columbia Political Review and the Columbia Journal of Sustainable Development, as well as hiking, kicking the ball around at the soccer field, and generally any outdoor activity!
