Rebecca Gerome
Senior Staff Attorney, Global Climate Litigation
As a Senior Staff Attorney in global climate litigation at Our Children’s Trust, Rebecca represents young children in cases outside the US. As a mother, she feels anxious about the future and is compelled to act and promote the voices of our younger generations.
Before joining Our Children’s Trust, Rebecca worked for the Open Society Justice Initiative, where she conducted and developed strategic litigation cases on human rights and climate in multiple languages and in jurisdictions around the world. For seven years, she also worked on international litigation and arbitration at Foley Hoag, a US law firm, representing States at the International Court of Justice and before arbitral tribunals, including defending Ecuador against Chevron and representing The Gambia against Myanmar regarding the genocide against the Rohingya. Rebecca has also represented children in asylum and immigration proceedings and for two years, worked for an international network against gun violence and led advocacy efforts at the UN to include provisions on gender-based violence in the Arms Trade Treaty. On the human rights front, she’s also investigated human rights violations against children on an Indian reservation in Montana, represented tea plantation workers in Assam, India, and defended a death row inmate in Alabama. Rebecca received her BA in History and Human Rights from Columbia University, her MA in International Affairs from Sciences Po in Paris, and her JD from New York University School of Law.
Rebecca is from Paris, France and currently lives in Brussels, Belgium. She’s lived and worked in countries including Ecuador, Colombia, India, Palestine, Jordan, Scotland, and the US. When Rebecca is not fighting to protect children’s rights to a safe climate, she enjoys spending time in nature - hiking, backpacking, skiing, and biking.
