SAMANTHA GETSOS

Legal Fellow

Samantha is from Pretoria, Gauteng Province, South Africa, and earned her Bachelor of Arts in Law and Bachelor of Laws Degree at the University of Pretoria (UP) conferred in 2015 and 2017, respectively. She was admitted as Attorney of the High Court of South Africa, Gauteng Division, Pretoria in July 2018, and in April 2020, obtained a Master of Laws Degree with a focus on Child Law research.

Samantha is also a Supervising Attorney employed by the University of Pretoria Law Clinic (UPLC) and a Practical Law Lecturer at UP. Currently, her position is multidisciplinary with 5 years post-admission experience as a practicing attorney and 5 years' experience in Clinical Legal Education (CLE). The UPLC forms part of the UP Faculty of Law (ranked number one on the African continent and 78th in the World) and engages in CLE for final-year LLB students by providing legal aid services to the indigent, thereby increasing access to justice.

Samantha is earnestly invested in collective collaboration and innovation in Higher Education which sets her apart from her peers. Annually, Samantha volunteers as Judge / Judge President for the UP Centre for Child Law (CCL) Moot Court Competition and attends the CCL symposiums and workshops. In July 2024, Samantha is attending the 10th edition of the Frontiers of Children’s Rights Summer School in Leiden, Netherlands to further her scholarship.

At Our Children’s Trust, Samantha is collaborating to develop new cases on international children's rights and climate change within the scope of OCT's programmatic global climate litigation efforts. In her free time, Samantha enjoys going on coffee dates with her husband and Yorkie, Mini Getsos, who is a three-year-old rescue pup. She also values family, food, and travel.
